Cebu, Philippines: Sinulog Festival

"PIT SENYOR!" reverberates the city scape. The Sinulog Festival is one of the grandest festivals in the Philippines. This festival attracts hundreds and thousands of people from around the country and the world. It is the mother of all Philippine festivals. Cebu City comes alive in a chaotic & euphoric state of celebration all throughout the month of January, though the main event happens on the third Sunday of the month.

OK, so how much money is needed?
On a travel-budget mode: Here's some tips & pointers for you, to save from this rather expensive Sinulog trip.

Airfare. It is definitely expensive during Sinulog Festival. Here's a tip:

Buy an airfare for Tagbilaran instead (you may even get a promo fare).

Book ahead w/ 2GO for SuperCat from Tagbilaran to Cebu. For only P360, you'll enjoy your fast craft ride to Cebu in no time.

Accomodation. Impossible to get one if you're not booked in advance. Here's a tip:

If you arrive on Thursday, chances are, some are still charging regular rates but you'll be kicked out the next day, Friday since their rooms are already booked in advance.

On Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, look for transient homes. They charge P250/head. Compare to P1200/head if you're lucky to even find one.

The Princesses!

The Grand Finale Showdown!

The show starts at 9AM. That is when the first competitor from the grand parade arrives at the complex. It is a whole day show that usually ends at around 8PM.

Ticket Prices:
It's a bit confusing to me since I paid P1,000 for a green ticket, purchased at the gate. Tickets are color coded and it can range from P50 (youth) to P2,500 (balik-bayans).
