TAYABAS, QUEZON

TAYABAS
Pres. Manuel L. Quezon described this city as having the “richest and gayest places in the province.” Is this enough warrant to visit the city? Well, come visit it for the rich historic sites. Old churches, old cemetery, and the old arch bridge.

Things to do in Tayabas.

Basilica of St. Michael the Archangel
The largest in the province. Constructed in 1585, rebuilt with bricks in 1600, reconstructed in 1742 after an earthquake, and expanded in 1856, proclaimed Minor Basilica in 1989. It has a historic clock on its belfry, one of the oldest clocks in Asia.

Birhen Dolorosa Church
One of the oldest churches in Quezon. Nuestra Senora de Dolorosa Church is where Turumba Festival is held annually.

Sanctuario de las Almas
(Chapel of the Souls). Built in the 18th century as a cemetery chapel. It is now a church and a place for devotees of San Diego de Alcala. Spanish and Filipino elite were buried here.

Municipal Cemetery
Tayabas Municipal Cemetery. It has a vibe of an old ruin to this place. The old Spanish architecture chapel has its unique twin towers. Those weathered tombstones bordering the center pathway leading to the chapel, definitely look eerie.

Malagonlong Bridge (Ruins)
Spanish-era Bridge, now ruined, has high and beautiful arches that withstood the test of time. Oldest and longest arched bridge in the province. Built in 1840. Now a national historical site.
