SAN JUAN
It's a small seaside municipality of La Union just along the highway. With its roadside dotted with inns and resorts, probably because of the fast growing surfing community in the area. Just a mere 8 kilometers away from San Fernando City, the capital of the province, or about 6 hours drive from Manila. Very accessible by car or a bus.
SURF BREAK BEACH FESTIVAL
Annual Surf Break Beach Festival.
The weekend of Oct 24-27 definitely belongs to San Juan’s Surf Break Beach Festival. Attended by the thousands of stoked party beach bums from all over the world, it surely is comparable to Boracay’s laboracay party atmosphere. Well, almost.
The entire stretch of the Urbiztondo beach in San Juan, La Union is blanketed with people. Coming and going. Many in grouped circles having their own little drinking party. An internationally-known DJ playing the dopest techno-dance music blasts through the wee hours of the morning. A party with no shortages of beers, booze, babes, bikinis, boys, boards, and big burgers.
How to get to this roadside surfing place?
Unlike Boracay, there’s no plane to catch, no bus transfers, and no boat to cross you over. Easily accessible from Manila. Just one bus-ride and you're there. You’ll be dropped off right at the smack of the surf-side area. If you take the 10PM bus, you’ll get to the beach at approximately 5:30AM, perfect to capture the sunrise that slowly peaks over from the mountain side.
